I have never yet had a problem installing External or internal modems on any system that does not have faulty hardware :) What I have had problems with is people not knowing how to install them and thinking that all ,"Internal" modems are the same. that's one reason I recommend people just get an EXternal modem.

... into the Bios and disable Legacy USB support. You either have a cable/connector problem or a driver problem. I suspect the latter. Most USB external drives do not require a third party driver but I think LaCie are an exception and suggest you visit LaCie site to see whether they have a new driver for your drive.
